Livelihood camp organised

A 7 day livelihood camp on food processing for women around Keibul Lamjao National Park was organised by Wildlife Institute of India along with Manipur Forest Department and Green Foundation Manipur at Sinsang CFC, Sekmaijin, Mayang Imphal today.
The initiative is a part of the eco-development activities carried out by the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun for conservation of Sangai.
43 participants were trained on how to prepare different types of food products from various raw materials, especially those which are found locally.
Vedmani Ksh, Food Scientist commenced the training and motivated the women participants on various prospects that such livelihood could offer and other economic freedom that women can achieve by taking up such livelihoods.
Entrepreneur Sanjita Lisham and social activist Shantala E Ronglo also gave an insight on the current scenarios of market, possible challenges and how to tackle them.
Arun from Green Foundation Manipur trained the women on maintenance of records, accounting and other necessary document management in a SHG, which are pre-requisite for successful operation of groups.
Telem Pinto, Chemical Technologist and expert trainer from Association of Food Scientist and Technologist (India) Manipur Chapter was invited as main trainer for conducting the training programme.
Various addition techniques were taught on making juice, jam, pickle, cookies, cake, fermented fish from different locally available resources such as Indian gooseberry, litchi, lemon, olive, chilli, fishes etc.
The participants were selected from villages located around Keibul Lamjao National Park so as to involve them in the conservation of endangered Sangai.
