VDF is part of Manipur Police: SP

The Village Defence Force (VDF) is a part of Manipur police, said Thoubal district Superintendent of Police, Dr S Ibomcha today.
Speaking on the occasion of the 11th raising day of the Village Defence Force organised by the Thoubal District VDF Welfare Association at SP Office complex, Dr S Ibomcha lauded the personnel for their tireless service towards maintaining law and order and peace in the State.
Acknowledging the roles and duties of the Village Defence Force, he said that the Government and higher authorities of law enforcement agencies in the State understand the grievances of the personnel (VDF).
He said the VDF personnel now have a proper uniform and they underwent systematic changes over the years to improve their functioning.
Encouraging the personnel to not think of themselves as not-police, he said that the VDF is part of Manipur Police.
SP Ibomcha then informed the personnel that the ex-gratia given from the VDF Welfare Fund to surviving family members of the personnel will be increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh from this year.
Stating all possible assistance would be provided to ease their grievances, he also appealed the VDF personnel to refrain from going on strike.
Best VDF member of Thoubal district 2019-2020 (Excellence Award) was given to Kh Subash of Heitroipokpi post.
The second prize was given to Md Shaha Alam of Lilong Police Station while Md Abdul Majid of TCP Lilong was given the third prize.
86 selected personnel from various outposts and police stations in Thoubal district were also given Appreciation Award.
Surviving families of deceased VDF personnel were also provided blankets by the VDF Welfare Association.
SDPO Yairipok, Lenshong Haokip; Nongpok Sekmai PS OC Inspector, Keisham Premkumar Mangang; Yairipok PS OC Inspector Riazjuddin Shah; Thoubal PS OC Inspector N Jadumani; TCP Thoubal OC Inspector Md Baniyamin; Heirok PS OC Inspector N Premjit Singh and other officers and VDF personnel attended the celebration.
The 11th raising day of VDF was also observed at Kakching Police Headquarters and Jiribam Police Station.
The observance at Kakching was graced by Kakching police, Superintendent of Police, Victoria Yengkhom; Addl SP(LO) Lukhomang Khongsai; All Manipur VDF Welfare Association president, Moirangthem Amuthoi, spokesperson Meisnam Sadananda while that of Jiribam's function was attended by M Mubi Singh, Superintendent of Police, Jiribam; Th Sanatomba Singh, SDPO Jiribam; O Bisambhor Singh; president Jiribam VDF Welfare Association and L Shantajit Singh , secretary, Jiribam VDF Welfare Association as presidium members.
