'71st Anniversary of Battle of Red Hill observed

The 71st Anniversary of the Battle of Red Hill or Point 2926 was commemorated on Friday at the Maibam Lokpa Ching, the Japan War Memorial Complex, Nambol, Bishnupur.
Manipur Tourism Forum (MTF) and the World War II Imphal Campaign Foundation jointly organised the event.
Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi, PHED Minister I Hemochandra, YAS and Tourism Parliamentary Secretary M Prithiviraj and Nambol MLA N Loken were the main dignitaries on the occasion.
The observation also witnessed the high-profile attendance of Takeshi Yaga, Ambassador of Japan to India and Patrick Suckling who is the Australian High Commissioner to India.
MTF president Dr Th Dhabali also attended the observation.

Addressing the gathering, O Ibobi applauded the initiative of Manipur Tourism Forum for spreading the significance of the Battle of Imphal during the World War II to the outside world.
He added that such commemoration spreads the message to stop war and promote peace and also hoped that such initiative will boost the tourism industry of the State.
Ibobi also said that the Battle of Imphal is as much a story about the people of Manipur as about those who came from elsewhere in India and abroad'.
He said that the government will assist in preserving the site as a heritage one.
Besides efforts are being made to attract tourists from home and abroad here.
Japanese Ambassador to India Takeshi Yaga said that people in Japan and Japanese Government know the importance and the historical significance of the parts of Eastern India to the Japanese people.
He further stated that Japanese Government is always interested in assisting Manipur and the other North Eastern States towards development in any way.
