Imphal, August 28 2018:
The 20th foundation day of United Peoples' Front Manipur (UPF) was held at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound today.
The event was attended by UPF Manipur president W Second, Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) president Amu Kamei, Kuki Inpi Manipur advisor Thangkhosei Haokip and Manipur College Assistant Professor L Gojendra as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, UPF president Second narrated that Manipur was annexed by the British after creating hatred among the communities and destroying the unity.
But even after Manipur gained independence from the British and joined the Indian Union, the State has always faced threat to its boundaries and has also experienced many boundary issues due to meddling by India.
Apart from the boundary issues, thousands of people of the State have been killed in fake encounter cases and hundreds of women have been raped by the Indian army under the protection of AFSPA, ever since the State merged with the Indian Union, he added.
Second continued that the Central Government is attempting to destroy Manipur by bringing up peace talks with NSCN (IM).
The love and harmonious relation which existed between the Meitei, Naga, Kuki and Meitei Pangals etc have been strained after Manipur became a part of India, he said.
On the other hand, demanding the Central and State Governments to take up necessary measures for the protection of the indigenous people and the minority groups, Second appealed to all the people of both the hills and the valley to work together for the betterment of the State.
