Imphal, December 27 2011:
With demerits outweighing merits, a public announcement would be made soon for abolishing tuition culture among the students of Manipur, Advisor of All Manipur Recognised Private Schools Welfare Association N Tomba has informed.
He was speaking at the 'Parents' Day cum Prize Distribution Ceremony, 2011' of Halley English School at the ground of Citizen's Club, Soibam Leikai on Monday.
Tomba observed that the Association has been critical about the prevailing tuition culture in Manipur and had included the same in its manifesto.
Looking from the angle of making up some lessons which the students do not comprehend or missed out, tuition may be essential.
But the prevailing culture of tuition where students and parents have come to regard it as an essential part of education in Manipur is doing more harm than any intended good.
This fact should be understood by all, Tomba said.
Apart from making students less attentive in the class and the possibility of teachers skipping lessons, the prevailing tuition culture has also given additional financial burden to many parents with students taking tuition for every subject, Tomba pointed out.
He also proposed that registration of tuition centres being run by teachers should be made mandatory.
Director of Education (S) W Rajen and Chairman of Halley English School Y Bashimohan attended the function as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Noted theatre personality O Biramangol and Principal of NG Mani College were also present at the dais.
At the occasion, Late Madam Promila Memorial Award, Late Oinam Purnachandra Memorial Award and Late Md Millan Khan Memorial Award were presented and winners of Science Model Exhibition and student first divisioners of the school in HSLC examination, 2011 were felicitated.
