Imphal, December 27 2011:
Public leaders of Nungba sub-division have sought immediate attention of the Government towards Nungba Community Health Centre and other Government offices located within the sub-division which have been virtually abandoned.
While interacting with a team of visiting media persons during a joint inspection trip to Government offices of the subdivision yesterday, the public leaders stated that X-Ray machine, ECG machine and tools and equipment required for surgical installations remain useless in Nungba CHC though these machines and equipment were installed in the health centre sometime back on account of absence of doctors and technical staff.
People have been enduring severe hardships at times of illness as the patients have to be taken all the way to Imphal.
The leaders who inspected the Government offices together with media persons included representatives of the Nungba Village Authority, Nungba Mothers' Association, Nungba Bazar Board and the Nungba Customary Board.
They informed that a child died a few days back due to lack of healthcare facilities in the sub-division.
On account of the absence of requisite Government offices like Forest, Excise, Agriculture, Veterinary etc, people have to traverse to the Tamenglong district headquarters for any work related with these offices which entailed large expenditures and loss of time in addition to physical inconveniences.
In view of the dilapidated condition of the pillars supporting Nungba Keithel, vendors are afraid to sit and ply their trades inside the Keithel, they conveyed.
They further appealed to the Government to look into the grievances and basic necessities of the people, and address them at the earliest.
