Question hour 9 depts taking up works inside Kangla : CM

In reply to MLA K Shyam's query in the State Assembly, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, who also holds Art and Culture portfolio, has said that nine different Government Departments have been undertaking reconstruction works inside Kangla after Assam Rifles were removed from the fort.
He said that a total of Rs 31,86,48,432 has been spent under Manipur Police Housing Corporation, International Council of Monuments and Sites, New Delhi, PWD, Power Department, PDA, Directorate of Environment, Horticulture and Soil Conservation and Manipur Tribal Development Corporation in these works so far.
The Chief Minister further said that the main function of the Kangla Fort Board is restoration and preservation of religious sites and important buildings of Kangla.
He further informed the House that International Council of Monuments and Sites, New Delhi is planning to take up some reconstruction works inside Raj Bhavan complex as well.
Responding to a query of MLA RK Imo, O Ibobi said that the Central Government has decided to develop a smart city in the State although the exact location is yet to be decided.
Stating that it is not likely that the smart city would be developed without the knowledge of the State Government, Ibobi said that Imphal could not be ignored as a contender for the said endeavour.
MLA Th Shyamkumar questioned the Chief Minister whether any retired Government officer has been engaged as a contract employee by the Government.
Responding to this query, the Chief Minister said that retired officer Jarnail Singh has been appointed as the Advisor to Chief Minister, retired IAS officer RK Nimai as the Government Consultant, retired MCS officer H Mathang as the Deputy Secretary (Education-S) and retired MCS officer Th Amalkumar as the Deputy Secretary (Works) .
Replying to MLA L Dikho's question, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that process is on to organise swearing-in ceremony of newly elected ADC members.
Responding to MLA Th Shyamkumar's query, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Minister Govindas Konthoujam said that 19,965 fowls, 806 ducks and 2,365 eggs were disposed off during the outbreak of Bird Flu in the State some months back.
Compensation of these fowls and eggs would be distributed soon as a detailed report has already been sent to the Centre, the Minister said and added that 50 per cent of this compensation would be borne by the State Government while another 50 per cent by the Centre.
