Imphal, July 08 2015 :
Taking note of the disturbances to normal functioning of educational institutions, particularly in Imphal, by the 'resurgent' demand for ILPS, the State Govt has ordered the temporary closure of all educational institutions from primary schools to higher and technical educational institutions including colleges, polytechnics, etc located in Greater Imphal areawith immediate effect and until further orders.
The Education (S) Dept and Higher and Technical Education Dept have issued separate orders today in this regard.
The orders for temporary closure of the educational institutions have been issued 'in consideration of the physical safety and security of the students of all institutions in Imphal area' .
The Govt deeply mourned and regretted the unfortunate demise of a boy student of Ananda Singh Hr Sec Academy reportedly in connection with the agitation and the reported counter actions by the State police, which also resulted in injuries of many students.
It also expressed regret over the 'unwarranted' use of students as fronts for the ILP agitation, resulting in the unfortunate death of a student and injuring of several others today.
It appealed to all concerned, particularly the various organisations spearheading the pro-ILP agitation to immediately desist from such acts of using students community for their 'ulterior motives' .
Considering the gravity, the sensitive nature and the adverse implication of the situation, the State Govt has imposed restrictions on the movement and assembly of persons to prevent further aggravation of the law and order situation in Imphal area with immediate effect today, the orders mentioned.
