Student dies of shell injury; ILP stir intensifies

One student died of tear gas canister inflicted injury on Wednesday and the District Administrations have clamped indefinite curfew in Imphal East and Imphal West districts which have been the main theatres of resurgent agitation demanding a fresh Bill to cope with the migrants.
The student was identified as Sapam Robinhood (16), son of Sapam Romesh.
He was a student of class XI in Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy.
Eye witness accounts said that the students had come via Telipati planning to storm the Assembly.
Some policemen stationed at the riverside mound fired tear gas canisters without any warning.

One shell hit Robinhood who sprawled on the floor.
Police shooed away students who tried to take him away.
Much later one elderly person stopped his two wheeler and with the help of two students he was rushed to a hospital.
Doctors declared him dead after one and a half hour of treatment.
Students from several schools and colleges also came out of their classes to stage protests.
Several students including girls were injured when police fired tear gas shells, sprayed water cannon .
Even girl students pelted stones at the police.
Unmindful of the announcement of the imposition of curfew the students continued their sit in protests.
Students who had come out were herded inside Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy and police allegedly fired several tear gas shells and smoke bombs.
The students retaliated by pelting stones.
The angry students torched one traffic point, shed and other items.
Besides one bus bringing IRB personnel was damaged and pushed into a ditch.
The students also tried to storm the police station at Porompat.
Police opened blank fires to disperse the students.
Though curfew was clamped a large number of women had come out to take out torch light processions at night.
Sounds of firing tear gas shells were heard from many directions.
