Imphal, April 27 2011:
Powers devolved to the ADCs will help development in the hill areas, said CM, O Ibobi today speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of the training programme on flagship schemes for Congress workers held at the Khangshim community hall in Chandel district.
The CM said that his government is working to reach the benefits of the flagship programmes to the poor sections of the society.
He asserted that the series of training programmes were being conducted with the objective of monitoring the mode of implementation of the schemes as per instructions from the Centre.
He said, there was an instruction from the central leaders to monitor the implementation of the schemes to know whether the benefits of the schemes are reaching to the poor people.
The devolution of powers to the ADCs was meant to take up developmental works at the grass root level in the hill districts.
Chairmen of the ADCs are also chairmen of the DRDAs, so ADCs now have a greater role in the implementation of various flagship programmes in the hill areas, he asserted.
The CM said that MGNREGS is one of the flagship programmes which will directly benefit the rural poor, but he was unhappy that certain organisations are intervening in the implementation of the scheme.
MPCC president Gaikhangam who presided over the opening function said that the Congress led governments at the Centre as well as in the state are tardy in taking up welfare works of old people.
Gaikhangam sought co-operation of all sections of the society in the implementation of the schemes.
The function was also attended by Ngamthang Haokip, DK Korungthang, Francis Ngakjokpa and MLA K Meghachandra.
