Imphal, April 27 2011:
The Democratic Students' Alliance Manipur (DESAM) today organised a one day discussion programme on the new recruitment rules of teachers for Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan (SSA) which will will recruit teachers on mark basis, at Imphal College.
Retired Principal DM College of Teachers' Education, Dr S Gyaneshwar was the moderator of the discussion function.
Teachers and students of different colleges and students' bodies and members of various CSOs participated in the discussion.
Speaking in the occasion, general secretary, DESAM M Angamba said that there is a need to adopt the new recruitment policy of teachers proposed by the state government on mark basis after much discussion.
Qualification should not be the only point in which teachers are appointed since teachers are the maker of future pillars, he said.
The current unrest situation in the state is due to the high level corruption by politicians, leaders and bureaucrats in the past three decades, he said.
According to the provision of NCTE, it is mandatory for a person to past the National Teachers' Eligibility Test for recruitment as a teacher in government service.
However the state government's new recruitment policy is ignoring the provision of NCTE and giving more emphasis in mark secured by the candidate in examinations from Matric to higher educations.
If the policy is implemented, many persons who buy certificates by spending some thousand rupees will be recruited leaving behind the deserved one.
