Government committed to uplift Muslim girls: Edn Minister

Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam today urged all stakeholders to work towards empowering muslim girls through education.
Education is a fundamental right enjoyed by every citizen of this country and muslim girls of the State must be given opportunity to pursue education, he said.
The Minister was speaking at the 11th Foundation Day celebration of All Manipur Muslim Girl Students' Union, AMMGSU, at Sangai Hall, Imphal Hotel.
Expressing concern over the low literacy rate among muslim girls, he said that a joint effort is needed to address the issue and achieve total literacy.
He said that the reasons for low literacy rate and higher drop-out rate among Muslim girl students need to be addressed at the earliest.
Th Radheshyam said that the Government has implemented many schemes for the welfare of the citizens.
It is very important that the benefits reach the targeted beneficiaries, he added.
He also narrated the inspiring story of the Pakistani girl, Malala Yousafzai who was attacked by extremists for advocating girl education.
"One must have the will and determination to attain the dreams and shun fear as it is detrimental in human development," he added that failure is a stepping stone towards achieving success.
The Minister also assured the gathering that he will take up the matter regarding general education and reservation to the Chief Minister and Cabinet Ministers.
The celebration was attended by Secretary, BOSEM, Dr Chithung Mary Thomas, Director, DDU Centre for KAUSHAL, Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh, dignitaries, teacher and students.
