Stage set for quarter finals of MU Inter College Football Tournament

The quarter final line up of the ongoing A Pratap Singh Memorial Manipur University Inter College Football Tournament for men were completed today with YK College, DM College of Sciences, Kha Manipur College and Thoubal College earning respective win.
YK College were able to beat Liberal College by 3-2 goals to set up quarter final date with DM College of Science tomorrow.
YK College and Liberal College were neck to neck throughout although YK College dominated the earlier proceedings and took a 2-1 lead courtesy of a brace from A Joychandra (11', 33') after Th Lemba had handed Liberal College the lead early in the 6th minute at Kodompokpi Ground, Wangjing today.
Liberal put up a brave fight to find the equaliser which they eventually had in the 50th minute with Kh Lucky finding the net but Nongpoknganba broke the deadlock for YK College in the 67th minute.
Liberal College made an all out attack with the hope of levelling the score but ended in vain as YK College defended well to take home the game 3-2.DM College of Science on the other hand, rode on goals by O Olendro (10') and Jangkholen (55') to see off Standard College 2-0 and made themselves into the quarter final.
Elsewhere in the next match, Kha Manipur College and CI College played out a 1-1 draw during normal time before the former team had a 9-8 edge via penalty shoot-out.
M Dayananda scored the opener for Kha Manipur College in the 37th minute only to be equalised by O Bungthoi of CI College in the 40th minute.
As the two teams failed to find the winner during regulation time, the game was decided via tie breaker wherein Kh Rajnikanta, Kh Sarju, Karl Marx, Sh Manichandra, Th Yaiphaba, Md Nasir Khan, M Abash and Sh Afaollah scored for Kha Manipur College against 7 goals for CI College scored by O Bungthoi, Kh Sushil, Kh Michal, N Bipin, Kh Gyanendra, L Premchandra and Maniratan.
The last match of the day was also a similar contest as AK Kishan equalised in the 24th minute for Thoubal College after J Thangtinlen handed DM College of Arts the lead in the 2nd minute of the game to make it 1-1 till the end of regulation time forcing the game to be decided through kicks from the penalty mark.
In the shoot-out M Ronaldo, L Kumarjit, Manglemba and Y Napolean scored to hand Thoubal College the 5-4 win as only Ph Chaoba, Priyobata L and Douginten found the target for DM College of Arts.
Thoubal College will now meet Kha Manipur College for a place in the semi-final tomorrow.
