Academic awareness programme held at Jiribam

As part of the ongoing campaign of Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) to completely wipe out the menace of drug abuse and alcoholism from the State, academic awareness programmes were conducted on August 29 and 31 at Gourachand Aided High School, Champanagar and Jiri Public School, Babupara respectively on the theme "Impact of substance abuse on student communities".
The awareness programme held at Jiri Public School was attended by B Sharat Sharma, Advisor, CADA Jiribam District Committee and S Khogen, Head Master, Jiri Public School as presidium members while Khaidem Manglem, Secretary, Information & Publicity, CADA Jiribam District Committee attended as resource person.
Speaking at the occasion as resource person, Khaidem Manglem said that it is important for the students to remain fit and healthy in order to achieve success in life and for that to happen we have to eat healthy food while adding that without good health, students cannot concentrate on their studies.
Therefore, the students must stay away from the drugs and alcohols and should never try them even for once to lead a healthy and successful life in future.
He continued that people gradually become addicted to such intoxicants after the first try and hence it should never be tested or tried for even once.
On the other hand, the awareness programme held at Gourachand Aided High School, Champanagar was attended by B Sharat Sharma, Advisor, CADA Jiribam District Committee and Shyam, Head Master, Gourachand Aided High School as presidium members and Khaidem Manglem spoke as resource person.
Speaking at the occasion, B Sharat Sharma, Advisor, CADA Jiribam District Committee said that there are various reasons for the young students to start taking intoxicants adding that young students also start taking harmful substances under the pressure of their friends which is called
'peer pressure' .
Therefore, students must choose friends wisely, he added.
He further said that consuming drugs, alcohols and other harmful substances damage our body and also decrease the academic performances of the students.
