Noting that deprivation, prosperity to share and vulnerability are very much related to sustainable development, Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam appealed to the people to transform beautiful ideas into action for sustainable development of the State.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of a two-day International Conference on "Sustainable Development and North East India in the Globalized Era" held at Sangai Conference Hall, Imphal Hotel organised by Federation of Government College Teachers' Associations, Manipur (FEGOCTA) in partnership with DM College of Arts, GP Women's College and Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) .
Attending as chief guest, Radheshyam said that when the social, political and academic activities are carried out using technology, it affects and impacts the nature resulting in conflict of human with the nature.
He said that in order to attain the sustainable development, mankind should first try to preserve the nature, human need to become more caring towards nature and protect the nature from manipulation of human greed.
Therefore it is very important that the past, present and future be understood and to take the necessary steps carefully for the betterment of the world so that sustainable development could be achieved for the generations to come, he added.
He maintained that beautiful ideas need to be turned into action for inclusive development and for this one has to identify local issues and act locally.
The conference is being organised to discuss the emerging trends and challenges confronting development with a focus on North East India in general and Manipur in particular.
The conference will deliberate on overview of economy, political economy and environment (Plenary session of invited talk of 20 minutes each), strategy for economic growth, prosperity and food security, bioresources management and sustainable development, environment and natural resources, quality education and development, new approaches to physical and mental health, gender equality and women empowerment, reducing inequalities and disparities in development, innovative approach to justice, peaceful and inclusive society and exploring new partnerships for sustainable development.
The inaugural function of the conference was attended by Chairperson, Organising Committee of International Conference Dr Ch Shilaramani as president; Director, ISBD, Professor Dinabandhu Sahoo; Principal of DM College of Arts Sarangajit Khundrakpam, Principal of GP Women's College Dr B Lalhari Sharma and FEGOCTA president Dr Angom Pishak Singh as guests of honour.
