Imphal, December 29 2017:
Patsoi Kendra MLA, AK Mirabai has claimed that the BJP Government has failed to sanction even half the amount of funds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), compared to the time of the Congress Government, thus leading to inconveniences in taking up developmental works for villages and far flung areas of the State.
She made the statements at a felicitation programme of the successful Zilla Parishad, Pradhans and Ward members , which was organised at Toubungkhok Awang Leikai today, under the aegis of Patsoi Block Congress Committee.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Mirabai said that MGNREGA was introduced during the time of the Congress Government to improve the conditions and standards of the people living in the villages.
Under this act, a member of each household is given employment and a role in bringing development to the village.
However, after BJP came to power in the Centre, the funding for MGNREGA have decreased thus leading to immense difficulties in taking up developmental works in the villages, she claimed and added that the Government has also failed to sanction proper funds for other schemes as well.
Mirabai further appealed to all the local MLAs, Zilla Parishad, Pradhans and Ward Members to work together from bringing development.
Claiming that the Congress Government introduced an programme called Khungang Chatlu with the idea that Manipur cannot be developed without developing the villages, Mirabai pointed out that the initiative of reserving 30 percent for women has resulted in increased role of women in developing villages now.
Changangei Zilla Parishad Member S Marjit (Rahul) also appealed to all the people and the local MLAs to work together for development.
Ex-MLA O Landhoni also spoke at the event.
