Imphal, December 29 2017:
With the Goods and Services Tax (GST) implemented in the State since July 1 with the idea of 'one nation, one tax, one market', a Central GST Commissionerate office has now been opened at Imphal for an even more effective implementation of the tax regime.
The inaugural function of the office which would be headed by a Commissioner, was held today.
The office is located at Awang Chaokhong, North AOC Speaking on the occasion, Principal Secretary (Finance) Vivek Kumar Dewangan said that in a State like Manipur that relies on import, implementation of GST had brought more revenue to the State in the last few months.

VK Dewangan also expressed his confidence that the new tax system will bring more economic benefits to the whole nation.
He said that in a state like Manipur that depends on items imported from outside, the GST will not only increase the revenue but also improve the resources available in the State.
As Manipur also depends heavily on funds and grants from New Delhi, the GST will even be more beneficial, VK Dewangan told the gathering.
The Principal Secretary also mentioned that the State Government has been able to gather more revenues in the months of July, August and September 2017 with the implementation of this tax regime.
He said the State Finance Ministers are present as members in the Central GST Council that is headed by the Union Finance Minister as the chairman.
While informing that the State Government has set a target of registering not less than 10,000 dealers by March 31, 2018, VK Dewangan said that there is a lack of clarity on the provisions provided by the GST, due to which there is a section of dealers who are reluctant to go for GST registration.
Yet, with the opening of the office of the Central GST Commissionerate, the situation will change for the better, exuded the Principal Secretary.
Attending the function as the chief guest, Central GST and Customs (NER, Shillong) Chief Commissioner WL Hangshing said that the North East region enjoys various tax exemptions as a result of which New Delhi is very rigid when it comes to tax collection from the region.
Hangshing said, efforts are being made to implement GST properly and collect tax to the full potential.
Central GST, Imphal Commissioner Gaigondin Pamei also spoke at the inaugural function.
A source informed that one range office each headed by a Superintendent under the Central GST has also been opened at Moreh and Churachandpur.
