Five roads likely to get highway tag soon

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, along with the Chief Ministers and the Works Ministers of the North East States held a meeting at Kaziranga today, and reviewed the highway projects being taken up in the NE States.
Chief Minister N Biren, Works Minister Th Biswajit, Additional Chief Engineer (Highway) T Rabindra and ADB Project Director Y Joy Kumar were also present at the meeting.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Th Biswajit informed that the Union Minister has approved the State Government's proposal to announce five roads of the State as National Highways.
Pointing out that the Union Minister has assured to sanction funds for repairing the Sangshak-Tengnoupal road as soon as the necessary DPR is submitted to the Centre, Th Biswajit said that the Centre will also hand over charge of some Highways to PWD, Manipur so that the State Government can get nine per cent of the funds as agency charge.
The Union Minister has also approved addition of extra workforce (staff) to the NHIDCL to speed up the progress of National Highways works in the State.
The Union Minister also directed the State Government to carry out necessary inspection regarding the work progress along the National Highways of Manipur, he added.
Biswajit also added that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari assured to sanction Rs 2 lakh crore for development of the North East region and prioritized 262 roads for swift development/ construction.
