Student killed in mishap

Imphal, December 29 2017:
16 years old class XI student of Extra Edge School was killed in a road mishap at around 9.30 am today, after he fell down from the moving school bus and was crushed to death by its rear wheels, at Kwakeithel Takhellabam Leikai.
The deceased youth has been identified as Ning-thoujam Lanchenba s/o N Deban of Elangbam Leikai Marine Drive.
Soon after the incident, a team of Imphal police rush-ed to the spot and picked up the dead body and deposited it at RIMS morgue for post mortem.
An FIR has also been lodged regarding the incident.
On the other hand, family members of the deceased student have appealed to the authorities concerned to investigate the cause of death.
Speaking to media persons at the residence of the deceased youth, one of the family members expressed suspicion that the victim might have been pushed down from the moving bus thus leading to his death.
He stated that soon after they got information about the incident, the family members rushed to the accident spot (Kwakeithel Takhellabam Leikai) and found the victim's body lying in the middle of the road, covered with a cloth.
He pointed out that according to the locals present at the site, the accident occurred at around 9.30 am when the deceased fell down from the moving Extra Edge route number 2 school bus and was crushed to death by its rear wheels.
The locals also said that the school bus did not stop and continued driving away after the accident as if nothing had happened.
When the family members of the deceased went to the school, they found a large number of police personnel deployed near the school and the main entrance gate of the school was also closed.
Upon enquiry, the Principal of the school stated that due to the death of the student (Lanchenba), the school held a condolence meeting and the school was closed for the day.
The Principal further stated that the school authorities received information about the incident from one of the lady teacher of the school, who came in route number 12 school bus, and informed them that she came across the dead body on her way to school after a gap of around 15 minutes from the time of the incident.
The Principal also assured to visit the residence of the deceased to hold a meeting and also for the post mortem, the family member added.
He further said that no one from the school authority side turned up at the residence till the filing of this report.
The family member further expressed suspicion that the deceased student Lanchenba might have been pushed down from the moving bus as none of the students reportedly alarmed the bus driver to stop when the incident occurred.
He also demanded the department concerned to investigate into the matter and find out whether the victim fell down accidentally or jumped down from the bus or was pushed down.
