Imphal, June 22 2022:
Eenat Yokkhat Lup (EYL) has cautioned not to distort or customize the traditional attire and accessories worn by Priest, Priestess and Pena during Umang Lai Haraoba celebrations.
EYL in a statement appealed to all concerned not to rent such attire and accessories which are used for sacred rituals unreasonably and maintained that it will keep a strict vigil on the matter and warned that the violators will be dealt with strictly.
Further the Lup also sought support and cooperation from all in its continued efforts to preserve and promote the original identity and traditions of indigenous attire.
Expressing serious concern over the customization and distortions of traditional costumes of Lai Haraoba celebrations which are sacred to the Manipuri society by some Manipuri Film artists, dress designers and so called elite classes misrepresenting its original forms, EYL stated that renowned film actress, Soma Laishram is one among them who is misleading the public by showcasing customised costumes in Lai Haraoba platforms.
In view of the gravity of the situation, the indigenous body maintained that it has summoned Soma Laishram to come to their office to solve the matter amicably and had requested her to take down the video clips of her performance from social media platforms.
However she has shown an indifferent attitude and turned a deaf ear towards such a serious matter, therefore EYL has imposed a ban on all her film related activities until the matter is cleared.
EYL also cautioned that any person/organization found going against the ban will be held responsible for unwanted outcome, added the statement.
