Imphal, June 22 2022:
While accusing the BJP of being anti-poor and violating human rights occasionally, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has resolved to launch a month-long protest from tomorrow.
This was announced during a press briefing held at Congress Bhavan today.
Speaking to the media, MPCC spokesperson N Bhupenda said that the party resolved to raise 11 demands during the month-long protest including withdrawal of Agnipath scheme which plans to recruit youth in certain age bracket for four years in the Army .
Bhupenda continued that the party also condemned the summoning of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi by the Enforcement Directorate and the dismantling of houses belonging to poor families by the BJP Government.
Reiterating that the BJP is anti poor, the MPCC spokesperson maintained that the Congress will demand the Government to provide compensation and land to those whose houses were demolished, withdraw the proposal to expand 79 roads in Manipur 'erroneously', stop the fencing work along the border area, demarcate the Reserved Forest Area and districts and sub-divisions of the State expeditiously.
"It was the Congress which increased the number of districts in Manipur to 16 for administrative convenience but no proper demarcation has been conducted so far, " he rued.
