Ibobi exhorts people to work for peace and development

Commemorating the day when Manipur was officially recognised as full fledged state, the Government of Manipur celebrated the 41st Statehood Day celebration at the conference hall of Secretariat South Block today.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minster O Ibobi said that Manipur acquired Statehood on January 21, 1972 and the long cherished dream of the Manipuris was achieved.
This was indeed a memorial day in the history of the state.
He further said that Manipur came under the British rule since 1891.The state later came under the Indian Union on October 15, 1949.In 1963, election was held in Manipur under the Government of Union Territories Act 1963 and a Legislative Assembly of 33 members was formed.
Later after Manipur attained statehood in 1972, the state was divided into 60 Assembly Constituencies.
Two MPs in the Lok Sabha and one MP in the Rajya Sabha represented Manipur.
He also said that we all should know our own rights and duties and work accordingly.
The future of Manipur lies in the hands of the people of the state.
The function was attended by top civil and police officials.
