Imphal, January 21, 2012:
Unauthorized power connection in the hostels of RIMS has been cut off today by RIMS authority and have also recovered 50 electric heaters from the hostels.
Speaking to media persons, Ng Tomba, Electrical Section Engineer, RIMS said that a team under the initiative of RIMS Director, inspected the Post Graduate Ladies Hostel, PG Gents Hostel Number 1, Assam Type Hostel and Under Graduate Ladies Hostel yesterday.
The inspection team found that almost all the rooms in these hostels were using electric heaters.
Around 50 electric heaters were recovered in the drive.
The recovered heaters were just around 40% of the total heaters used.
Majority of the heaters have already been hidden.
He further stated that PG students of Hostel Number 1(Gents) and Assam Type Hostel were found illegally consuming power through unauthorised power connection which have been cut off.
Due to the excessive use of heater in the hostels and unauthorised connections, the transformer installed in RIMS gets overloaded and goes out of order most of the time.
As such most of the departments in RIMS hardly get enough power.
He also said that the drive will be carried out further.
Prof S Sekharjit, Director RIMS said that unauthorised use of power by students is prohibited by RIMS authority and this is also mentioned in the prospectus.
The students should follow the guidelines mentioned in the prospectus.
He further pointed out that the since medical is an essential service, PG students abstaining from their duties in the hospital as a part of their training is not the right approach.
Though the PG students have closed down the Casualty late last night, it was later opened as usual.
It remained open today also and the OPD is also working as usual.
Even though the PG students are required in the Hospital, it does not necessarily mean that the Hospital cannot run without them.
Meanwhile, the PG students were absent from their duties at OPD today.
Only the doctors were there to serve the patients.
Most of the patients who came today could not get treatment within the time OPD remained open and their fees were later reimbursed.
