Imphal, January 21, 2012:
The All Manipur Recognised Private Schools Welfare Association has asked the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) to make text books for 2012 academic session available to students in sufficient quantity or make arrangements so that reference books are studied in all schools uniformly.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, chief advisor of the association N Tomba said that both students and teachers face many difficulties as the BSEM could not provide text books in time at the start the previous academic session.
On account of this failure on the part of BSEM, schools used reference books suggested by BSEM as text books but there was no uniformity.
This created serious problems in conducting common examinations.
BSEM has already notified that schools should commence the academic session of 2012 from February 1.However, most of the text books are not available in markets till date.
As such, the association is apprehensive that students would face another situation as precarious as the one they faced last year.
Before the text books are fully available in markets, the BSEM should make an arrangement so that referral books are used as text books in all schools uniformly, Tomba demanded.
As per the academic calendar published by the BSEM this year, there would be six examinations for each of the class from Class III to X, and these include four periodical examinations and two terminal examinations.
In addition to these six examinations, there would be one common-question examination for classes VIII to X which would be organised by the association, Tomba said.
For common-question examination, it is necessary that all the students should study common syllabus.
For this, same referral books should be prescribed to all the students.
He also appealed to the Government authority to check whether or not all the parameters and conditions are fulfilled before a school is given recognition.
He further appealed to all concerned to make education and related departments free zones, and also not to make any kind of unaffordable demands on the schools.
