Imphal, January 22 2013:
Two days after members of Opposition parties in the delegation of All Political parties of Manipur, which went to meet the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister over the issues of Chandel molestation incident and protection of territorial integrity of Manipur, reached Imphal, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam returned today.
However, CM, O Ibobi is still at Delhi.
The delegation left Imphal on January 16 and met the PM and the Union Home Minister on January 17.With exception to members of Congress party, rest of the delegates returned to Imphal on January 20 .
Among the members of Congress party, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam arrived here today after attending a meeting of All India Congress Committee (AICC) at Jaipur in Rajasthan.
CM Ibobi, who was summoned by the Union Home Minister in Delhi much ahead of the visit of the delegation of All political parties, is still in the National capital and he is expected to be backed by tomorrow.
Reports reaching Hueiyen Lanpao said that the Deputy CM, who landed here today, is most likely to be haunted by the issues of Kuki State demand and abolition of SIU.
It may be recalled that Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Imphal West district was abolished by the State Government four days after the unit seized drugs worth Rs 1.4 crores from Tulihal Airport, Imphal on January 11.However, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also in charge of Home, claimed that he has no knowledge about setting up or abolition of SIU.
Interestingly, Inspector Ranjit, who was in-charge of the unit, was transferred and his rank even reduced, just a day after the drug seizure.
Since then, there has been a hue and cry over the decision of the State Government, and some of the CSOs have charged both the State Government and the Airport authority with involvement in smuggling of drugs.
The CSOs have also exerted pressure for revealing the identities of the drug smugglers.
On the other hand, Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) has raised its demand for a separate Kuki State by curving out of the present State of Manipur.
The Kuki body has even threatened to resume the public blockade in Kuki inhibited areas, which was earlier suspended and launched Quit Kuki land' movement with effect from 5 pm of January 24, if the demand is not met by then.
