Imphal, January 22 2013:
Khurai Polo club KPC) and Chingkheihunba Polo Club (CPC) respectively claimed the overall team titles of the State level 10th DG AR Cup and 4th IGAR (S) Junior championships which concluded today at Imphal Pologround.
Among the march past contingents, Imphal Riding Club, Manipur Police sports Club and CPC were respectively adjudged as the first, second and third position winners.
Organised jointly by IGAR (S) and Manipur Equestrian Association, closing ceremony of the four-day event was held with DGAR Lt Gen Ranbir Singh as the chief guest.
IGAR (S) Maj Gen UK Gurung, along with his better half Uma Gurung, Manipur Horse riding and Polo Association president Buddhachandra Singh, MEA president Dr S Joy Kumar Singh and a host of civil and military dignitaries also graced the ceremony.
Speaking at the occasion Lt Gen Ranbir Singh said that the DGAR Cup State Equestrian Championship and IGAR (South) Junior Equestrian Championship is a radiant and eloquent testimony of the Assam Rifles' enthusiastic zeal to encourage the strong sports culture of Manipur.
"It is also an endeavour to save the rare breed of Manipuri pony from the brink of extinction", a PRO IGAR (S) statement quoted the General officer as saying.
The whole ceremony was full of pomp and splendour but the cynosure of the ceremony were the traditional Manipuri Pung and Dhol Cholom and the exhibition of Sagol Kangjei (Traditional Manipuri Polo) which received accolades from the gathering on their performances, added the statement.
The senior category prize winners are lance individual: N Jel Singh of CPC; Sword individual: K Romeo Meitei of KPC; Show jumping individual: Th Ranjit of MPSC; Lance team: Khurai PC; Junior category � Lance individual: Y Suresh of CPC; Show jumping: Camaron of ESC; Girls category � Show jumping : Th Tana Devi of Chingkheihunba Polo Club.
