LAGSA (Lonpi Area Games and Sports Association) Meet begins

The 45th LAGSA (Lonpi Area Games and Sports Association) Meet 2013 hosted by the Association has been kick-started at Khopijang village of Chandel district from today with Singhat assembly constituency MLA Ginsuanhau Zou gracing the inaugural ceremony of the weeklong event as the chief guest.
According to Lagsa Meet organising committee president Ngamlal Baite competitions would be held in football and volleyball disciplines for both men and women with the winning teams to be awarded Rs 50,000 with trophies followed by Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 each for the runners-up and third place teams respectively in both events.
It is said that teams from Sadar Hills sub-division, and districts of Churachandpur and chandel are participating at the Meet.
As chief guest of the opening ceremony MLA Ginsuanhau prevailed upon the participants to utilise the opportunity for strengthening the bond of love and friendship while special contractor Khatkhosei Baite in his address noted that since its first edition in 1967, successive Lagsa Meets had been according top priority on promoting understanding and common aspiration.
Khatkhosei also expressed elation that efforts by community leaders and the general public have ensured longevity of the Meet inspite of the annual congregation having faced difficult situation at some junctures.
As special guests, special contractor Lovingson, social worker WS Kanarol and District Sports Association, Chandel president RD Wangam also graced the occasion.
