Chandel, July 21 2016:
Committee against shifting of FCI godown site from Liwa Khullen Chandel has vehemently opposed the State Government's move to shift the site for construction of FCI godown from Liwa Khullen and warned to launch intense forms of agitation.
Speaking to media persons at Liwa Khullen, Gabriel Chinir, convenor of the committee said that since the Government of India made the provision for construction of FCI godown in the district in 2011-12, people of Chandel and the then Deputy Commissioner proposed Liwa Khullen for construction of the said godown.
The FCI team who came to inspect the site on September 18, 2012 also found the site located at Liwa Khullen feasible and suitable for construction of the godown.
As the said site has fulfilled all the criteria and norms required for construction of the godown, the then DC provided required documents of the land to the authority concerned and accordingly FCI General Manager (R) intimated the then DC for acquiring the site at Liwa Khullen.
While all such formalities and procedures were nearing completion, it is unfortunate to learn that the State Government made a decision to construct the godown at Laiching Khunman which is against the wishes of the people of Chandel.
If the State Government and officials concerned had selected Laiching Khunman before approving the site at Liwa Khullen, the people would not oppose the decision.
However, people of Chandel and the committee vehemently condemn such move, the convenor said.
While drawing the attention of the state government to initiate steps for construction of the said godown at Liwa Khullen at the earliest, Gabriel Chinir appealed to the district administration and Minister D Korungthang to consider the wishes of the people.
