Imphal, July 21 2016:
Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur
(DESAM) has urged the authorities of different educational insti-
tutes to observe Patriot's Day on August 13 instead of declaring
the day as a holiday.
DESAM secretary general N Edison Meitei said that
DESAM and AIMS have been organising different pro-
grammes on Patriot's Day since the past many years.
He also appealed to the authorities of schools, colleges and
educational institutes to organise patriotic song and recitation
competitions on the day.
On the other hand, he said that apart from August 13,
August 14 is also a significant day in the history of Manipur.
On the day in 1947, the British Government handed over
the independence of Manipur to Maharaja Bodhachandra, he
said.
Edison further said that DESAM and AIMS would join
CIRCA in celebrating Independence Day of Manipur on Au-
gust 14.He also urged the public to celebrate the day at the
schools and colleges by unfurling the flag of Manipur.
Edison further said that DESAM and AIMS would con-
duct a debating competition on the topic, 'All the issues will
be resolved after Manipur regains the pre-merger political
status' on August 31 .
Intending participants may contact the offices of DESAM
and AIMS, he said.
