DESAM urges schools, colleges

Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the authorities of different educational institutes to observe Patriot's Day on August 13 instead of declaring the day as a holiday.
DESAM secretary general N Edison Meitei said that DESAM and AIMS have been organising different programmes on Patriot's Day since the past many years.
He also appealed to the authorities of schools, colleges and educational institutes to organise patriotic song and recitation competitions on the day.
On the other hand, he said that apart from August 13, August 14 is also a significant day in the history of Manipur.
On the day in 1947, the British Government handed over the independence of Manipur to Maharaja Bodhachandra, he said.
Edison further said that DESAM and AIMS would join CIRCA in celebrating Independence Day of Manipur on August 14.He also urged the public to celebrate the day at the schools and colleges by unfurling the flag of Manipur.
Edison further said that DESAM and AIMS would conduct a debating competition on the topic, 'All the issues will be resolved after Manipur regains the pre-merger political status' on August 31 .
Intending participants may contact the offices of DESAM and AIMS, he said.
