Imphal, July 09 2011:
Various NGOs of the state and other parts of the country today joint hands against a suspected killing of a HIV positive woman who was found death in the kitchen on June 2 this year.
Reacting against the incident, volunteers of the NGOs and local people of the maternal home of the woman victim came to the street and staged a sit in protest at Singjamei Chingamathak, Imphal West.
The sit in protest was jointly organized by Chennai based Solidarity and Action Against HIV Infection in India (SAATHII), Manipur Network of Positive People (MNP+), Women Action for Development (WAD), Universal Caring Mission (INUCAM), All Manipur Positive Women Network (AMPWN+), Centre for Social Development (CSD) and Christian Network of Positive Women Manipur (CNPWM).
It may be mentioned that Moirangthem Ongbi Rasheshwori (33) wife of M Ibomcha of Seijang Mayai Leikai was found death hanging inside the kitchen.
Police source confirmed that the woman was killed by her husband Ibomcha after he found that she was HIV positive.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Y Savana, Advocacy Co-ordinator, SAATHII said that they are staging the sit in protest demanding re-investigation of the case.
Even though police report claimed that Rasheshwori was killed by her husband, a fact finding committee formed to investigate the murder shows possibilities of involvement of other persons which might be the prime accuse of the case.
Based on the finding of the committee the NGOs and locals of the deceased woman are demanding a re-investigation of the case.
She said that police is also doing a big mistake by disclosing the HIV status of the deceased woman to the public.
By disclosing her status, police not only defamed her but also her family members whom she survived.
It is a grave mistake from the part of the police, she said.
Demanding a re-investigation to the case and provide legal rights to the deceased woman's siblings to become the sole heir of her properties, Savana said that government should safeguard the properties of the woman and handover the same to her children when they grow old enough to become the legal owner of the properties.
