'Khoibu cannot be recognized as a separate tribe'

Imphal, August 27 2011:
The recommendation of the Hill Area Committee (HAC) for the recognition of Khoibu as a separate tribe from the Maring tribe which recommendation MLA, Morung Makunga had also signed without any consultation, intimation and concern of the Maring people will not be entertained, said a press release signed jointly by president of Maring Uparup Assembly (MUA), president of Maring students Union (MSU) and president of Maring Napuiya Yinglam (MNY) .
The joint press statement said that in a joint meeting of MUA, MSU and MNY held on August 27 it was resolved that the concerned MLA was informed to apologise through the media to the Maring people and withdraw his signature so that peace and harmony is maintained in the Maring community.
In this connection a public meeting of the Maring tribe will be held on August 30 at Meipou community hall where all Maring Apex Organisations, village authorities are requested to attend the meeting, the press release added.
The release further said that the bill for construction of the road from Rilram centre to Lamlong Khunou inTengnoupal constituency under PMGSY, phase seven which is in an awful condition should not be released until the work is implemented.
MUA, MSU and MNY further appealed to set free K Morungdou Maring of Langkhongching village, Chandel.
