Imphal, August 27 2011:
Public Works Department employee today staged a symbolic protest in front of the Khoyathong office complex against the abduction of executive Engineer/Surveyor Wungshungmi Kasar of Sarkaphung village.
It is informed that whereabouts of the Engineer remains unknown till date after he was whisked away by unidentified persons from his Litan quarter on August 20 night.
Speaking to some newspersons at the protest site, PWD chief Engineer M Lokendro said undesired incidents such as abduction or threat only demoralise engineers and employees but will also impede various development works being taken up in the State as technical staff are apprehensive of making spot inspections consequently leading to sub-standard work.
Confiding that the Department is not aware for what reason Wungshingmi has been abducted even though the Engineer's family members hinted at ransom as the likely factor, he said with regard to the abduction Principal Secretary (Works) has reported to the Director General of Police with the Deputy Commissioner (Ukhrul) having already intimated the matter to Ukhrul police.
Moreover, the assam Rifles are making all out efforts to trace Wungshungmi Kasar, the Chief Engineer informed and made a fervent appeal for safe and early release of the engineer.
