Imphal, August 27 2011:
The Kuki Students' Union (KSO) Ghqs has appealed to the State Government to defer the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) scheduled for September 13 as the same day is being observed as Black Day by the Kukis since the past many years.
Though September 13 is not declared a public holiday, it is no less important for it is the day of mourning and prayer in remembrance of the over 900 Kuki people slain during the Naga-Kuki clash in the early 1990s, said KSO in a memorandum submitted to the Principal Secretary, Department of Education (Schools) .
Moreover, it would not be conducive to hold TET on the scheduled date in view of the general strike and blockade being imposed in the hill areas as candidates hailing from hills would be incapable to reach the exam centres which are restricted in the capital city alone.
The KSO further appealed to spread the exam centres to hill district headquarters as well as isolated areas such as Moreh and Kangpokpi.
