Imphal, August 27 2011:
The three MLAs of Sadar Hills who went to New Delhi recently and sought Centre's intervention in the present imbroglio, have claimed that the Union Home Minister supported the demand for creation of Sadar Hills district.
Sadar Hills MLAs Thangminlen Kipgen, Haokholet Kipgen and Doukhomang Khongsai who went to New Delhi and lobbied with the Union Government to persuade the State Government so as to grant district status to Sadar Hills were accorded a warm reception today at PDA Church complex, Keithelmanbi.
The reception function was attended by a large number of people including village chief, community leaders and women leaders.
Speaking at the function, the three MLAs conveyed about the statements given by the Indian President and the Union Home Minister on the issue of Sadar Hills district.
They claimed that the Union Government assured all possible assistance towards realising the people's long standing demand.
The Union Home Minister supported the demand for creation of Sadar Hills district, claimed the three MLAs.
The Home Minister reportedly stated that Sadar Hills should be granted district status.
Taking due note of the CM's appeal made on the floor of the State Assembly session to give some time as well as to call off the blockade, the three MLAs proposed suspension of the ongoing blockade and general strike.
However, Sadar Hills people who attended the gathering not only rejected the proposal but also voiced a number of their grievances against the Government.
Nevertheless, the three MLAs were told they would be informed in the next couple of days whether the agitation continue or call off.
They (Sadar Hills people) also proposed to hold another meeting together with the MLAs, in case there is any necessity for such a meeting.
One among the three MLAs informed The Sangai Express that he would not go for any meeting unless the SHDDC invites him.
