Mao, May 24 2015 :
After nearly an hour of public confusion created by the Mao Council's sudden decision to call off its already announced 24-hour Manipur total bandh on May 22 morning, the strike was re-imposed by late afternoon by the council which led to the resignation of its president.
According to a statement by Mao Council, it has clarified that the decision to call off the bandh on Chief Minister O Ibobi's assurance to consider the matter seriously and to initiate necessary action, was a unilateral decision of a few persons led by its president.
Therefore, a collective decision of the council's house had decided to re-impose the strike as announced earlier and that the bandh was effective as desired by all, it said.
It has also acknowledged the support and co-operation of the general public that endorsed the strike which passed off peacefully.
Meanwhile, the council has also informed that its president resigned on moral grounds on May 23, 2015 in the wake of the strike withdrawal issue.
It may be noted that, the apex Mao tribal body had called the 24-hour State wide total bandh from the midnight of May 22 to protest the alleged prolonged silence maintained by the Manipur Government on the encroachment upon Kozri and Dzkou Valley under Senapati district's Mao by Southern Angami people of Nagaland.
