Imphal, May 24 2015 :
JD-M Manipur unit has slammed the BJP-led NDA Government for removing special category status from Manipur.
Even though the BJP led Government has been trumpeting the Act East Policy, it is deceiving the people of Manipur by removing special category status, said JD-U Manipur unit president M Tombi.
Speaking at the flag hoisting ceremony of party candidate Miss Julia Shinglai at Mawai village under Kasom Khullen sub-division of Ukhrul district today, Tombi remarked that there is stark inconsistency between the NDA Government's Act East Policy and their decision to remove special category status from Manipur.
Julia Shinglai is contesting the ADC election in 24-Nambashi DCC.
Subsequent upon the decision to remove special category status, Manipur has started facing financial difficulties.
Rather than discharging their duties as an elected Government, the State's Congress Government has been looking up to the Centre for protection of its boundary, Tombi asserted shifting his focus to the Congress party.
The Congress Government has been maintaining a deafening silence in the face of incursion at Choro in Ukhrul district and Govajang in Chandel district by Myanmar and by Nagaland in Dzuko Valley of Senapati district.
The State Government should do what is expected from an elected Government.
It can consult the Centre and whoever that matters later, Tombi said.
As for JD-U, it is fully committed to the territorial integrity of Manipur, he added.
The ensuing ADC election is the first election after the formation of Janata Parivar.
In case Julia Shinglai is elected, she would be the first people's representative of Janata Parivar, Tombi added.
JD-U State unit general secretary Lien Gangte, women's front State president Lata Devi, village chiefs and Church leaders were also present at the flag hoisting ceremony.
