Corrupt Ministers, MLAs, bureaucrats beset Manipur : Rishang Keishing

Corrupt ruling Ministers, MLAs and bureaucrats who charged 10% for every scheme has made Manipur one of the most corrupt places not only in India but also in the world, alleged Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing today.
Speaking in a One Day Discourse on Impact of Corruption and Extortion on Civil Societies jointly organised by Manipur Committee for Social Concern and Kuki Research Forum at Classic Hotel, Imphal, Rishang Keishing said that India is a democratic country with its real power in the hands of its citizens.
However, there is no meaning of democracy in Manipur.
Many developmental schemes sponsored by the central government are being mishandled by the Ministers, MLAs and bureaucrats in the state.
The corrupt nature of the representatives of public are oppressing the innocent people.
The demand of huge amounts of money for job appointments is a matter of deep concern.
Apart from this, UG groups keep indulging in extortions which adds to the woes of the innocent people.
Manipur today receives huge amounts for developmental activity.
However various schemes of the centre have failed to benefit the public due to corruption.
Speaking as guest of honour, former minister C Doungel said that corruption is a habitual nature of mankind.
But it should be confined as far as possible, within a limited area.
Corruption and extortion have reached alarming proportions.
Something has to be done to check it.
Ministers, MLAs and bureaucrats should give up the mindset of corruption and strive for the welfare of the public, he added.
MLA Prithiviraj said that the rise of corruption is an example of the decline of spiritualism in the people.
Social organisations should bring out the mistakes of the society and the government for a better society.
Urging the people to initiate a work culture, he said that most of the people of the state indulge in agriculture activities only for about four months in a year and remain idle for the rest of the year.
There were three technical sessions.
Dr M Nara, Professor Irene Salam, MU and N Binoy, president Senior Citizens for Society were the moderators of the three sessions.
Professor Lal Dena, MU presided over the function.
