Ukhrul, May 31 2015 :
120 polling parties have reached their polling stations as the last batch of polling officials deputed for the ADC elections in Ukhrul district today.
In Ukhrul district headquarters, polling parties were despatched from Pakshi ground.
Polling parties also proceeded to different polling stations from Phungyar, Chingai and Kamjong block headquarters for the election to be conducted in 206 polling stations of the district tomorrow.
Meanwhile, although today was the last day for submission of postal ballots of polling personnel, many of them did not submit their postal ballots to the ROs concerned.
In Ukhrul constituency, the RO has received only around 100 postal ballots although 189 postal ballots were issued to different polling personnel.
Reliable sources said that most of the polling parties have reached their respective polling stations in the evening today.
No untoward incident has been reported till the time of filing this report.
However, stringent security measures have been put into place to ensure peaceful conduct of the election.
The SDOs/Returning Officers stationed at block headquarters are closely monitoring the situation of their constituencies/blocks concerned to ensure free and fair election amidst reports of intimidation of some candidates and party workers in the past few days.
Special prayer services led by the respective Pastors were conducted in all the Churches of Ukhrul district headquarters for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the election today.
The Churches also urged all the political parties and candidates to show respect to others and shun violence during the election.
In the morning sermons, the Pastors dwelt on the teaching of Christ to forgive others saying that anything which is against the will of God is the sinister design of the devil to create confusion among His followers.
The Churches called on the people to understand such devilish designs because it may create misunderstandings and increase the rift among people.
The Churches appealed, "Let the voters decide and elect the leaders for our
better future" .
