Imphal, May 31 2015 :
Works and Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar has slammed the Centre's BJP Government as pro-rich and pro-corporate houses without any concern or empathy for the country's vast majority of poor people.
Dr Ratankumar was speaking at a public gathering at Mayang Imphal Kokchai this afternoon where many people who joined Congress anew after leaving other political parties were accorded a warm reception.
The BJP Government has abolished wealth tax which otherwise should be collected from wealthy people of the country apart from slashing the corporate tax from 30 per cent to 25 per cent.
Prices of all essential commodities including petroleum products have been rising incessantly.
The amount invested in Mid-Day Meal scheme annually was Rs 12,100 crore under UPA Government but the NDA Government has reduced it by almost 50 per cent to just Rs 6,236 crore.
Likewise, funds earmarked for different social welfare schemes have been slashed.
They even attempted to do away with MGNREGS completely, Dr Ratankumar said.
As for those people who joined BJP in Manipur recently, they don't know what is ethics or ideology.
They joined the party because they are power hungry.
A BJP Manipur Pradesh leader who is speaking like he is a holy cow is rather shameful, the Works Minister remarked.
The gathering was presided by Mayang Imphal BCC president and Mayang Imphal Municipal Council Chairman Thokchom Rajmohon Meitei.
