No Tobacco Day

Indian Medical Association, Manipur State branch in collaboration with Medical Directorate, National Health Mission, National Tobacco Control Programme, Voice of Tobacco Victim and Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol observed the World No Tobacco Day, 2015 at IMA hall, Lamphelpat, Manipur on the theme 'stop illicit trade of tobacco products' today.
Director of Health Services/State Mission Director flagged off a rally from the Directorate's office to Indian Medical Association's Office as part of the observation.
The World Tobacco Day, 2015 is observed worldwide on May 31.The theme of the observation this year 'stop illicit trade of tobacco products', is as an appropriate theme for the State considering the growing trade of tobacco in the State, chief guest of the event Family Welfare Director Dr K Rajo stated.
Despite the restrictions on sale and purchase of tobacco, no effective measures have been taken up to contain open sale and purchase of the same in the State.

The Family Welfare Director further proposed more awareness programmes on the ill effects of tobacco.
CADA president Yumnam Ratankumar; Regional Director, Health and Family Welfare Dr L Ashananda; Indian Medical Association, Manipur State branch vice-president Dr Th Bhimo and Indian Medical Association, Manipur State branch Honorary Secretary Dr Ng Arunkumar also attended the observation.
A similar event was also held at KLYDC, Wangoi Khaidem Leikai organised jointly by NCC troupe no 6, Nambol Higher Secondary School, NNDA and KLYDC, Wangoi Khaidem Leikai.
Lieutenant Colonel K Santa Singh and Nambol Higher Secondary School Principal M Shanti Singh flagged off a cycle rally from Nambol Higher Secondary School as part of the observation today.
Former MLA O Lukhoi, Wangoi A/C graced the observation as chief guest.
