Watermelon festival concluded

The fourth watermelon festival was concluded on Sunday at GM Hall.
It was organised by Nahakpam Foundation for Development.
Giving the keynote address in the function, Nahakpam Foundation for Development Secretary Nahakpam Santa urged the State Government to help the watermelon farmers increase local watermelon products.
Santa urged the State Government to form separate industry for watermelon in the State.
He alleged that the State Government has only interest in the orange festival and Pineapple festival but not interested to develop watermelon products.
Santa told even such festivals are organised every year but still the government does not make any policy for the farmers.
He was unhappy on the State Government and responsible departments for lacking of co-ordinations with the farmers.
The festival was started on May 25 in which ten stalls participated from different State farmers.
IGP Manipur and Vice President Manipur Olympic Association S Manglemjao giving his Chief Guest speech, said that the State has sufficient essential commodities requirements after our farmers have put hard work than before and we need not fear even long economic blockade imposed by the some organisations.
He appealed to the farmers to put more hard work and have to increase all agriculture and horticulture products for exporting to other States.
Department of Economics, MU Dr Chinglen Meisnam attended as President and BJP Manipur Pradesh General Secretary Admn M Ashnikumar; ACOAM Lup, Kangleipak President Ksh Somorendro; BJP Yuva Morcha President O Malesh attended as Guest of Honours while BJP Yuva Morcha Vice President Vikramjit Khongkham and All Manipur Students' Guardians Association Secretary Organisation S Sumati attended as Special Guests respectively.
Certificates were distributed to the participating farmers.
