ADC POLL 2015: Voters to decide fate of 495 candidates today

Imphal, May 31 2015 :
Fate of 495 candidates will be decided by a total of 7,09,283 voters in the Autonomous District Council (ADC) election for which polling will begin from 7am on Monday.
The six ADCs in the five hill districts of Churachandpur, Tamenglong, Chandel, Ukhrul and Senapati have a total of 144 seats.
However 12 candidates had been elected uncontested already All necessary steps have been taken for smooth conduct of the election.
The polling at 1,082 booths spread across the five districts including Sadar Hills under Senapati will end at 4:30 pm.
In all, 5,410 polling personnel have already reached their respective polling stations.
Security arrangements have also been put in place in and around all polling stations for ensuring free and fair election, official sources said.
Strong rooms for ballot papers and other related polling materials have also been kept ready.
All polling stations will be guarded by the State security forces while personnel of paramilitary forces will be deployed around the polling stations for area domination.
In Ukhrul which has 206 polling stations, not a single polling station has been declared normal as 152 have been declared hypersensitive while 54 as sensitive.
For Tamenglong which has 80 polling stations, 60 have been declared normal.
Out of 146 polling stations in Senapati, 42 have been declared hypersensitive and 57 as sensitive.
In Churachandpur which has 290 polling stations, 19 have been declared hypersensitive.
The State Government has declared holiday on June 1 for all Government and private establishments including educational institutes under all ADCs so that the electorate can exercise their franchise.
Meanwhile, the State Election Commission Secretary Th Chitra has appealed to the people to extend cooperation towards ensuring a disturbance-free ADC election.
