Workers convention held

The Co-ordinating Body of Trade Unions, Manipur has organised workers convention which was addressed by Trade Union Leaders at Irawat Bhawan here today.
Speaking at the convention, Laishram Sotinkumar, Chairman of the Co-ordinating Body observed that more than five lakhs workers in the State launched cease-work strike on February 20 and 21 last and submitted representation of their due demands to the Govt of India.
The movement was launched necessarily as the Govt preferred to remain silent on the issue.
'National Convention of Workers' was held on August 6, 2013 at New Delhi attended by representatives of workers from every States and resolved to submit charter of 10 demands, Sotinkumar added.
During the convention today, Dr M Nara, President All India Trade Union Congress Manipur State Committee stressed on the necessity to strengthen the movement of the Trade Union.
Elections only cannot bring a change in the society and if Trade Unions are strengthened then the change will be brought.
Stating that Trade Union is a school of socialism, Dr Nara recalled the quote of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, a Russian communist revolutionary, politician and political theorist which said that if politicians cannot make the people launch movement on the street, they are not true politicians.
Today's convention resolved to hold, Statewide mobilisation, rally and satyagraha on September 25, mass demonstration in front of Parliament on December 12 and conduct joint action programs etc.
