Street vendors stage sit in protest

Ima Panthoibi Street Vendors Union organised a sit in protest in front of Khuman Lampak ISBT today demanding the State Government to make its stand clear regarding the construction of a women's market (Nupi Keithel) near ISBT.
Speaking to media persons at the spot, Ima Panthoibi Street Vendors Union advisor Y Indrani Devi said that the union has been demanding the authority concerned to build a women market in the area since 2011.During the time of the Congress Government, the then CM assured to build one such market at the earliest, she added.
She conveyed that the present Chief Minister also took up some steps regarding the establishment of a women market by sending some officials for site inspection on December 4 last year.
Alleging that police personnel and officials of the Municipality are constantly harassing the street vendors, she demanded the State Government to make its stand clear on whether the market will be constructed as promised or not.
