Troops of 31 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector reportedly launched operation in the international border areas based on information about movement of disruptive elements to spoil the independence Day celebration in the State.
According to a PRO IGAR (S) release, a team of the AR unit spotted a hideout close to the international border in Chandel district leading to recovery of large cache of arms and ammunition including rocket-propelled grenade launcher, RPG shell, AK-56 rifle with ammunition and three magazines, and lathode shells besides come communication equipment.
Detailed search of the area is being carried out to apprehend the insurgents, it added.
On the otherhand, another team of 31 AR recovered contraband Ganja from a Maruti Van moving from Wangjing to Moreh on August 10 .
The individual arrested for possessing 2 kilograms of Ganja has been identified as Rameshwar Singh (21) s/o Ibo Singh of Heirok Part-II, Thoubal.
Rameshwar along with the recovered item has been handed over to NCB, Imphal, it added .
