Imphal, August 11 2011:
Along with representatives of the Kuki UG groups, which are signatories to the Suspension of Operation (SoO), a meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group was held at the banquet hall of Ist MR with Chief Secretary DS Poonia in the chair today.
Apart from Joint Secretary (North East in-charge) of Union Home Ministry Sambhu Singh and top officials of police, Army, Assam Rifles and CRPF, leaders of UPF and KNO were also present during the meeting.
Today's meeting was convened in the backdrop of the SoO agreement set to expire on August 21 and the tripartite talks scheduled to be held at New Delhi on August 16 where the agreement is expected to be extended for another one year.
During the meeting today, representatives of the Government issued necessary instructions to the SoO signatory Kuki UG groups to ensure that their respective cadres and weapons remain within the designated camps.
The Government representatives also directed that one of the groups, which is reportedly extending support to the ongoing economic blockade over the demand for Sadar Hills district, should back off at once.
