Security beefed up ahead of Independence Day
UGs' coordination committee and KCP (MC) to boycott I-Day

The state home department has sounded alert in and around Imphal area and security has been beefed up in the areas ahead of the Independence Day celebration following boycotts called by several proscribed UG groups in the state.
Police frisking in Imphal area has been intensified in the past few days.
Talking to reporters today at his office chamber, senior superintendent of police, Imphal West L Kailun said that security has been intensified across Imphal and its outlying areas following the boycott by underground outfits.
Meanwhile a press release of the Coordination committee of KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK (PRO), RPF, UNLF and UPPK boycott the upcoming Independence Day celebration on August 15 .
Another press release of the proscribed UG group KCP (MC) emailed to Hueiyen Lanpao also boycotts the Independence Day celebration in the state.
The statement of the UG groups appealed to the people of the state to be aware of the "dirty ploy" of the Indian government and asked to rise up and make the boycott and general strike a complete success.
In the meantime, the state security forces have stepped up security measures by conducting search operations, frisking, etc in and around Imphal area to pre-empt the possibilities of disruptive and subversive activities by the banned outfits.
Kailun further added that in the days leading up to the Independence Day celebration all sensitive areas in and around Imphal will witness elaborate deployment of state and paramilitary forces.
More extensive gathering of intelligence inputs from all the district police has been organized to upset subversive forces, he added.
He further said that security measures and deployments would be scaled up especially from August 13 till Independence Day and adequate security escorts would be employed to ferry VIPs and VVIPs to the venue of the celebration.
The home department has also appealed to the general public to be more vigilant on the day in and around the venue.
The public must immediately report the police in case of any suspicious and unclaimed objects, said Kailun.
Meanwhile, security forces are keeping vigil by identifying and deploying its forces in sensitive and vulnerable spots in Imphal and its adjoining areas.
The police are found conducting impromptu cordon and search operation in and around Imphal for the past two days now.
