Imphal, August 11 2011:
Border Road Organisation (BRO) has alleged that the State Government has done nothing to stop the quarrying activities of the local villagers along the hill cliff of Imphal-Jiribam Road, which have contributed to the present deplorable condition of the road.
Talking to The Sangai Express, Commandant of BRO PN Yadav asserted that the harmful effect of quarrying activities on Imphal-Jiribam road have been brought to the notice of the Government time and again.
But the Government has not taken up any step towards resolving the issue.
The Commandant pointed out that the condition of the road in Kambiron, Sibilong and Kaimai areas is still not appreciable.
Yet vehicles continue to ply.
The said road stretches are being repaired by two private contractors, who have been entrusted with the task.

BRO has also been facing the problem of security, land acquisition and shortage of construction materials in repairing Imphal-Jiribam road, the Commandant added.
Earlier the State Government had blamed the BRO of not dispensing with their duties on the highway.
