Loktak Modern Fish Market inaugurated

Dubbed a historic and tourist destination of the State, 45 kms away from the State capital, Moirang, today witnessed twin inauguration of the State's first Loktak Modern Fish Market at Moirang Patlou and Khoyol Keithel at Moirang Lamkhai by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh.
The fish market was constructed under the sanction of National Fisheries Development Board with support from the Department of Agriculture, Government of Manipur and public contribution under the Public Private Partnership model initiated by the Moirang Municipal Council at Moirang Patlou.
Earlier the space was allocated for a veterinary office.
With a total number of 90 stalls which include separate section for meat and fish, the modern fish market has state-of-the-art refrigeration room and deep-freezer facilities to facilitate proper storage for the vendors.
Khoyol Keithel was constructed under financial assistance of the Municipal Administration, Housing & Urban Development (MAHUD) and public contribution through the PPP model of Moirang Municipal Council.
Located at Moirang Lamkhai, the market is strategically located and can provide easy access from different parts of neighbouring places like Bishnupur, Thanga, Churachandpur, Karang, Kumbi etc.
The keithel has separate storage and goods storage areas.
Applauding the works of the Moirang Municipal Council (MMC) for their relentless support and developmental works, the Chief Minister said that other local urban bodies should learn how to work collectively with sincerity.
He said that the two markets belong to the people of the State and it is not only for the people of Moirang.
It should be a hub for economic prosperity for the people of the entire region.
Further he urged the people of Moirang to extend their support to the road expansion work which will soon be initiated in the area as the road leading to the historic Sendra Tourist Home needs more space for proper transportation.
The Chief Minister gave his words that Moirang will have 24X7 uninterrupted power supply and potable drinking water.
"As a matter of State Policy, it is our duty to provide basic amenities to the people," Ibobi added.
He maintained that the Community Health Centre of the region will be upgraded if it is necessary.
Meanwhile, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Sericulture Minister, Govindas Konthoujam who attended as the functional president urged the people to maintain upmost care to maintain a clean environment at both the market place and to dispose waste in proper areas.
Fisheries and Agriculture Minister Md Abdul Nasir, Chairman of PDA T Mangibabu, Parliamentary Secretary, YAS and Tourism M Prithiviraj, Chairperson of Moirang Municipal Council Ph Rajen, Senior Technical Officer Regional Office, Guwahati Dr Ranendra Verman, Commissioner of Department of Fisheries, Norbert Dishinang and the Director of Department of Fisheries Kh Memcha attended the inaugural function as the guests of honour.
